ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE

Thank you for your interest in The Cobb School, Montessori.  We look forward to introducing you to our school and getting to know you throughout the application process and beyond.  Our admissions procedure is outlined below. 

 

1.     Call to make an appointment.

Many parents learn of The Cobb School, Montessori through word-of-mouth or through our print and digital media presence.  Once you've discovered The Cobb School, please call Sallie Ann Jacobs, Director of Admissions at 860-658-1144 ext. 107 or email admissions@cobbschool.com to schedule your visit. 

2.     Come for your parent meeting and school visit.

Individualized attention is paramount to the Montessori philosophy, and we carry that approach through the admissions process.  Even if you've attended an open house, you are invited for a personal meeting, along with a tour and classroom observation.  Your meeting is your time to tell us about your child and to learn about our school.

3.     Submit an application along with current school evaluation forms, if applicable.

Complete the application downloaded here or received in your admissions folder. Send it to the Admissions Office with your application fee.  If your child is currently enrolled in another school or early childhood program, please forward his or her evaluation forms to the Admissions Office as well.

4.     Schedule your child’s visit to the classroom.

After your child’s application and fee have been received, we will contact you to arrange a time for your child to visit the classroom.  Toddlers visit the Young Children’s Community with their parents, and most Primary children will have a brief visit in the classroom without their parents.  Elementary children oftentimes spend an entire day at the school.  The classroom visit can be customized to each child’s readiness to join the classroom community.

5.     Await the school’s admissions decision.

Admission to The Cobb School is determined after careful consideration of the appropriate placement of each child.  Although the school enjoys rolling admissions, most children begin with the new school year or after the December holiday.  Criteria for acceptance are based on the child’s age, readiness and the parents’ commitment to the Montessori philosophy.  When individual classrooms reach their capacity, children may be added to the waiting list.
