Colorado Plateau Adventure
Spring Break, 2024


Days 1 – 2: Preparing & Skill Building
Day Camp, at Cobb School, 8:30 am – 1:00 pm
At school, campers will work with guides to learn skills they will need for a successful trip. We will work on:
- Team building
- Expedition behavior
- What to bring and how to pack
- How to keep your gear dry
- Menu planning & food prep
- Camp cooking & cleanup
- Tent setup and care
- Orienting to the landscape with a topographic map
Days 3 – 12: Skills into Practice: Expedition to the Colorado Plateau
Overnight travel begins
Day 3: Fly to Las Vegas, Nevada and drive to Zion National Park in Utah

Days 4 – 6: Explore the Canyons and Geology of the Colorado Plateau
- Explore Zion National Park
- Hiking iconic trails at Angels Landing & the Virgin River
- Horseback tour of Bryce Canyon
Day 7 – 11: Climate and the Colorado River
- Visit Lake Powell and learn about how climate and human intervention is contributing to the water crisis in the west
- Visit the Navajo Nation and learn about Navajo culture
- Kayaking/rafting in the Colorado River
- Exploring Horseshoe bend and Antelope Canyon
- Day hiking Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon
Details & Application
Cobb’s Colorado Plateau Adventure is open to children aged 11 – 15 years. We welcome Cobb students and young alumni as well as students from other Montessori Schools of Connecticut member schools. Space is limited to 11 campers.
This trip is still in the planning phase. Fees for this trip will become available as plans are finalized. Fees include all activities, food, lodging and transportation.
Camping and backpacking gear will be provided through the program.
Registered campers will be sent a packing list detailing the required personal gear.
