Parent Ed: Our Marvelous Children by Sandra Girlato

October 26, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Our Marvelous Children: The space and grace to become all that they can be!

Our children are on a physical, mental, and spiritual quest to become independent individuals within an interdependent world. As adults we are privileged to work with children, for our children are at the beginning of life: a period that provides an opportunity to see the wonders of human development. As educators and parents, we have an immense responsibility to be the best that we can be, to act with intelligence, integrity, and benevolence, and to provide thoughtful prepared environments conducive to wholesome development. Our work is to prepare children for life and not simply to provide education. This talk will highlight all that it entails to be in the children’s world, including our role, the environment, and the needs of the child.

Presented by: Sandra Girlato

Sandra Girlato is the Primary Director of Training of the Foundation for Montessori Education in Toronto, Canada, where she has been training adults to become Montessori teachers for more than 25 years. She is also the President of AMI Canada which is a national organization that provides professional development, parent education, and support to schools across the country.

Sandra’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, English, and fine art history from the University of Toronto, as well as a Master’s Degree in Education from Loyola College, with a special focus on Children with Special Needs. These qualifications in conjunction with her Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) diploma at the Primary level, and a four-year AMI Training of Trainers program have made Sandra an expert on child development and Montessori principles and practices. In addition, Sandra has the unique distinction of having studied under the direction of Renilde Montessori, Dr. Maria Montessori’s youngest granddaughter, for both her Primary Teacher Training course and the AMI Training of Trainers Program. Sandra has been active in both the public and private education systems, working with children, parents, educators, and administrators for over 30 years. She is a past member of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) Scientific Pedagogical Committee, as well as the Materials and Translation Committees. As an AMI Director of Training and a past adjunct professor at Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland Sandra has spoken across North America as well as in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. In addition to her speaking engagement, Sandra is an AMI Examiner who oversees the examination of students completing their training as AMI Primary teachers at various training centers around the world. Although quite a bit of her time is spent working with adults, Sandra also actively works with children and provides support to schools as a consultant, teacher mentor, and parent educator.
