Building a Better World Through Educating the Whole Child
At Cobb School Montessori, we believe that each child is born to be a learner. Their full potential is realized through work in an ordered, challenging, and nurturing environment.
Dr. Montessori discovered, through scientifically-based study, that given the proper amount of guidance and freedom children develop a positive sense of self and community. A Cobb Montessori education meets each child’s developmental needs at every level and feeds their passionate curiosity.
Our school is a place where individualized attention leads to capable, compassionate children. The result is an education that prepares each child for the complex social, emotional, and academic challenges of middle school, high school, and beyond. We educate our students for life!

Message From the Head of School
Welcome to Cobb School Montessori, where childhood is treasured and learning is full of joy. From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll feel the warmth of a community built by children, educators, and families who care deeply for one another.
Your child is at the heart of everything we do. We consider it a privilege to walk alongside them during the most formative years of their life and watch them grow into independent, responsible, courageous, and compassionate people.
Step into our classrooms and you might find a young child carefully slicing fruit for a snack, sewing a tiny pillow, or tracing a map of Asia with focused attention. Older students may be collaborating on a history timeline, writing a poem, studying the carbon cycle, or finding the square root of a number with concrete math materials. In every corner, children are engaged in meaningful work they’ve chosen, work that challenges their minds, strengthens their skills, and sparks their imagination.
Here, learning is hands-on and real. Children are encouraged to follow questions that matter to them, to take initiative, and to learn from trying and doing. They develop not only the ability to do for themselves, but also the wisdom to balance freedom with responsibility toward themselves, to others, and to the world around them.
Our greatest strength lies in our exceptional, highly experienced teachers and staff who are trained and grounded in the Montessori philosophy and are deeply committed to continuous learning. Every member of the staff is dedicated to nurturing the whole child.
Cobb has been my home for over a decade, first as a parent, then a teacher, and now Head of School. I’ve seen firsthand how this community supports children in becoming their best selves while building a sense of belonging for every family. This continues to strengthen my belief in Cobb’s mission.
I invite you to discover what makes Cobb so special and to join us in giving your child the gift of a Cobb education and a community that will stay with them for life.
Warmly,
Subha Sankaran
Head of School
Campus

Nestled in the Farmington Valley on over six picturesque acres in Simsbury, Connecticut, our campus is beautiful, rich in history, and a home away from home for our students.
The approximately 20,000 square feet of indoor space includes nine classrooms, the Corbett-Coletti library, an art studio, a science lab, a photography dark room, gardens, a Great Hall (with a gymnasium), administrative offices, athletic fields, and playgrounds. The outdoor environment and playground were renovated in 2018. Each airy classroom offers a full set of AMI-approved Montessori materials, custom furniture appropriate for the ages of students working in that environment, and a dedicated kitchen area. All classrooms have exterior windows or skylights, and each has its own garden, allowing easy and immediate access to the outdoor environment. The school is also invested in being environmentally responsible.
Inclusion & Belonging
Cobb School Montessori is committed to nurturing a compassionate and inclusive community where every child, family, and staff member feels a deep sense of belonging. We honor human dignity, fairness, and the uniqueness of each individual. We welcome, value and celebrate the diverse identities and experiences of our community members. We actively promote access and equity with respect to backgrounds of race, creed, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, national/ethnic origins, socioeconomic background, neurodiversity, or abilities.
Our curriculum emphasizes the evolution and interconnectedness of human societies across time and geography, fostering an appreciation for both the diversity and commonalities among people and cultures. We work to broaden students’ views of themselves, and the local, social and global communities, while nurturing a strong sense of social responsibility.
Guided by Montessori principles, we engage in ongoing reflection, professional development, and community activities that strengthen our understanding of our biases and enable us to open our minds to perspectives that differ from our own. We expect that individual beliefs and feelings will be shared with respect, differences will be honored, and that conflicts will be acknowledged and resolved with empathy and care.
