We believe that the cost of independent school education should not be a deterrent to families considering private education.
We encourage any family who feels they may need financial assistance to apply for financial aid.
Due to the commitment of members of our community, The Cobb School has limited, need-based financial aid funds from which to draw in order to help families of qualified students who may not otherwise have access to an independent school education. Families for whom a Cobb education may present a financial burden are encouraged to discuss the process and details of our Financial Aid Program with our Director of Admissions.
Any family with a student in the Morning Primary, Extended Day Primary or Elementary Program may apply for financial aid. We do not offer financial aid to students in our Young Children’s Community. Preference is given to families who have two or more children enrolled in The Cobb School. Financial aid awards are made on a year-to-year basis. Families must file a new application annually. Applying for financial aid does not affect your child’s prospects for admission to The Cobb School. Although our commitment to tuition assistance is strong, are resources are limited, and our maximum award is no more than 50% of total tuition. Late applicants are unlikely to receive awards. The Cobb School, Montessori does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its education policies, admission policies, financial aid programs or any other school-administered program.
Cobb Financial Aid
The Financial Aid Fund was founded in the spring of 1997, thanks to a generous donation from past Admissions Director, Denise Alfeld, and her husband, Chad, and the commitment of the Board of Trustees. Families with more than one child are invited to donate their “sibling discount” to this fund.
Rebecca Crocker Scholarship Endowment Fund
Founded in memory and celebration of Rebecca Crocker, daughter of Nancy and Co Crocker, who was a student at our school from 1982 until 1986. Becca died after a courageous battle with leukemia on August 30, 1997. It is the wish of Becca’s family that this fund supports our financial aid program.
Willem van Gemeren Friends Forever Scholarship Fund
This endowed fund was established in March, 2010, by Betsy van Gemeren in memory of her son, Willem. This financial aid fund honors Willem’s caring nature and Betsy’s deep commitment to providing other children with the benefit of a Cobb School education.
Financial Aid Application: Apply Online
In order for us to allocate our resources wisely and fairly, we have enlisted the help of Independent School Management’s FAST (Financial Aid for School Tuition) program. ISM’s FAST does not decide whether financial assistance will be given or how much to give; rather FAST provides a need-based financial aid analysis service. FAST provides the school with a report, which includes a recommendation of what a family should reasonably contribute toward tuition. All information from FAST is kept confidential.
- The charge for the application is $38 and to be paid by credit card at the end of the session. After completing the online application, you will be required to mail your tax returns for both state and federal taxes with all schedules and W-2’s to: FAST Processing ~ 1316 North Union Street ~ Wilmington, DE 19806-2594. Large pre-addressed envelopes are available from the Business Manager. Including the School’s name on the outside of the envelope will ensure faster processing of your application. Click HERE to visit the FAST website.
- Once there, click the Get Started button at the bottom of the first page. The application process if self-guided. You may navigate in and out of the program allowing you to partially complete an application and go back to it at another time. All your financial information should be entered directly through the secure server. Space is also provided to fill out additional information that may be pertinent to your application.
- Online e-mail and a 24 hour helpline is provided. Please feel free to call FAST with any questions.
Once completed, the application will be available immediately for the Financial Aid Committee’s review. You will be contacted by the Business Manager if additional information is needed.
The online submission deadline for all applications is February 24, 2020.
Your tax return must follow the submission and be postmarked by March 15, 2019.
Make your tax appointments early. Once these deadlines have passed, families can still apply for aid, with the understanding that financial aid offers may not be extended by the time Enrollment Contracts are due. The goal is to have an award determination made by the time Enrollment Contracts are issued. While no financial aid procedure can be entirely equitable – there are simply too many individual factors and extenuating circumstances – the process with FAST services serves our community well. Among its many features is the ability to further secure your financial data and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
